We think beauty is seen in fashion mags,
All flaws edited away to nothing,
Check the mirror and see how it compares,
Believe the lie
True beauty is in a person’s spirit,
It is seen in the way they love people,
It shows itself in times of trial,

Waking Up
Coffee is brewed as the day starts
The aroma itself starts to wake me up
In a helpful pavlovian response
Consuming the spirit of the beans
You catch a little of the farmers
Their labor enabling mine
Drinking down the warm beverage
Jump starting my body and mind to life
Maybe I will be productive today
As the caffeine kicks in
I realize its Sunday
And I will be lazy all day

To Grieve
Tears pour off his face
Like a fierce rain
Coming from deep within his soul
Struggling to find words
For the pain consuming his being
He lets out a cry from the depths

Crumbling under the weight
Of that crushing thought

I spent some time today thinking through disciplines I want to have more of in my life and here is what I came up with:
Spend some time daily with my phone and computer turned off
Walk and bike more
Get regular times of play with friends
More frequent time in nature
Regular exposure to art/beauty
More local/neighborhood civic engagement
